Sara Carrigan started racing as a 15 year old after being identified through a High School Sports Talent Search. 

Her greatest successes came at the 2004 Olympic Games, in Athens, when she the road race, from a two rider breakaway, with Germany’s Judith Arndt. 

At the 2006 Commonwealth Games, in Melbourne, she won a bronze medal, in the individual time trial, and played a crucial support role in the road race, which was won by Australia’s Natalie Bates. 

She won the Australian time trial championship twice, a round of the 2003 UCI World Cup and was Australian Female Road Cyclist of the Year in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Sara represented Australia eight World Championships, two Olympic Games (2004 and 2008) and two Commonwealth Games (2002 and 2006).

She received the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the 2005 Australia Day Honours List, has had a street named in her honour – Sara Carrigan Crt – and was inducted into the Queenslad Sporting Hall of Fame in 2012.
